Spring Is No Time For Spots!

It’s true. “Active aging” is trending as more of us are spending time outside, in the sun, all year long…hiking, skiing, gardening, playing golf or tennis. Spring is almost here and with it increasingly sunny days and exposure to damaging UV and UVB rays.

Age spots, sometimes called sunspots or liver spots, typically appear on skin that has had the most exposure over the years to Ultraviolet light from the sun. They are commonly found on the face, the backs of the hands, the shoulders and neck. The use of tanning beds or tanning lamps can also contribute to their development. Age spots are small and flat but they can group together making them appear even larger. They commonly develop in people with fair complexions but they are also seen in people with darker complexions. Although they are usually harmless, they can be a sign of aging – especially on the face and hands.

Dr. LoBuono offers a non-invasive treatment solution, a breakthrough technology called IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or PhotoRejuvenation, which employs the combined bi-polar radio frequency and light energies of ELOS technology. ELOS safely and precisely targets pigmented lesions such as freckles, spider veins, rosacea and age spots.

How does IPL work?

The treatment area is prepared with a cool gel. Then the ELOS hand-piece is used to gently pulse an intense light over the area. The combined radio frequency and light penetrate the affected area, destroying the melanin-producing cells. The generated heat impairs the vessels or lesions without damaging the surface of the skin. After treatment, the skin is cleaned and sun block applied. Healing begins immediately, but the lesions may darken before they flake off or are absorbed by the body.

Each treatment takes about 20 minutes and can be repeated as often as every 3 to 4 weeks. Discomfort is minimal and there is little or no downtime. You can resume normal activities immediately. Following treatment, your skin will appear smoother and tighter, with a more even texture.
